Location Form
When a crash is selected for relocation, the location form is displayed. The location form is designed to closely align to the fields and headings provided on the crash report. The location form is shown below.
The form contains the following controls for relocating a case:
•Header – The top of the form displays the case number, case year, crash date, crash time, and municipality in a header bar
•Location Data – The main section of the form contains all the locational data for the case (to be modified as needed to successfully locate the crash)
•Reset Form Button – Click to reset all form values to their original values when the form was opened
•Process Button – Click to pass the location fields to the geocoding engine to find all candidate locations
•Close Button – Click to close the location form without relocating the crash
The fields within the location form are as follows:
•County/Muni – Picklists for County and Municipality (typically completed)
•House # –House number of Street (addresses only)
•Street – Street on which crash occurred (On street)
•At Intersection Street – This is the cross street when the crash occurred AT the intersection
•Offset (option 2) - These controls are used when the crash occurred a specified distance from a feature (Intersecting Street, Exit, Milepost, Reference Marker). The data required for an offset candidate
•Distance of offset
•Units of offset
•Direction of offset
•Offset Feature Type picklist (type of feature for the offset. This will define which of the four fields below must be specified on the form.
•Intersecting Street/Exit Number – These fields are used solely for offsets from these features in #2 (should align to feature type offset picklist above)
•Milepost - The milepost of the crash. If used as an offset, the Offset Feature type must be set to "Milepost"
•Reference Marker – The Reference Marker of the crash. If used as an offset, the Offset Feature type must be set to "Reference Marker"
•Non-Public Way – Checkbox that signifies the crash occurred at a parking lot, truck stop, toll booth, etc.
•Police Provided Coordinates– X,Y coordinates of the crash provided by the law enforcement officer
•Computed/Derived Coordinates– X,Y coordinates of the computed (current) location of the crash (read-only)
Among the above controls/fields, there are two buttons that assist in navigating to the location data on the map:
•A "Zoom To Feature" tool () is located to the right of several fields on the Location Form (specifically County, Municipality, Street, and Intersecting street). To zoom to the specified geographic feature, click this button next to the feature of interest and the map will automatically be navigated to the extent of that feature
•The Street field also has a "Select Street on Map" tool () available. This can be used to select a street by clicking on the map rather than entering the street name in the form. Simply click this tool, then click on the desired street within the map (the field will then be populated with the name of the selected street).
Notes:
•Street fields are “combo” fields allowing the user to type and then pick from matching choices
•Intersecting Street fields will only provide choices of valid street names once a street is selected
•Street names are initially all upper case. If an edit is needed the name should be entered in mixed case to find a street name
The user should modify the location form as needed based on the crash report. When the location form is completed and ready, the user clicks the Process button to geocode the crash using the data within the form. All potential candidates are returned and the candidates tab is displayed.
