Managing Queries

Advanced Queries can be saved, shared and re-used within the Crash Data Viewer (CDV) . Options to Save or Copy a query, Share, Rename, and Delete are available.

Saving a Query

Any Advanced Query that has been fully filled-out, whether it has been run or not,In either case, the first step is to save the query:

Complete selections and entries on the tabs for Step 1 through Step 3, optionally clicking the 'Execute' button to run the query.

Select the 'Save' button and select the 'Save As' option (the 'Save' option would be used to save changes to an existing Saved Query)

The definition of what to search for is saved in the Saved Query. The results are not saved.

A Saved Query will appear on the 'My Queries' filter of the 'Manage Queries' grid shown below.

Sharing a Query

An existing Saved Query can be shared with one or more users. To share a query:

Select the checkbox on the left side of the Manage Queries grid, for the grid row of the Query to be shared. Once selected, action buttons that were previously greyed out will become active beneath the grid.

Select the 'Share' button, the user is presented with a 'Share Query' dialog where they can decide in what manner to share the Query. There are three options, shown as radio buttons:

oNo: This is the default. In this case, the Query is saved for the user, but remains un-shared with anyone else. This option can also be used to removed access to the query from everyone else.

oWith All Users: Shares the Query with all CDV users.

oWith Specific User: One or more individual users can have the Query shared with them.

Once the correct option for sharing has been selected, and in the case of 'With Specific User', configured, select the 'Share' button to make the Query available to the appropriate users in CDV.

Any user with which a query has been shared can then load the query definition for their use in the future by clicking the 'Open...' button in Step 1 of creating an Advanced Query.

Copying a Saved Query

Sometimes a new query is needed that is very similar to one created earlier. In that case, the easiest way to do so (assuming the previous Query has been saved) is to copy the existing Query and then edit it.

To Copy a Query:

Select the checkbox on the left side of the Manage Queries grid, for the grid row of the Query to be copied. Once selected, action buttons that were previously greyed out will become active beneath the grid.

Select the 'Copy' button, the user is presented with a 'Copy Query' dialog where the name of the new query can be assigned; it is automatically set as the existing Query's name with " - copy" appended.

The copied query will be available immediately, with the same sharing configuration.

Renaming a Saved Query

If a Saved Query should have its 'Query Name' changed, this can also be completed from the Manage Queries grid.

To Rename a Query:

Select the checkbox on the left side of the Manage Queries grid, for the grid row of the Query to be renamed. Once selected, action buttons that were previously greyed out will become active beneath the grid.

Select the 'Rename' button, the user is presented with a 'Rename Query' dialog where the name of the Query can be updated. The user interface will provide a red 'Query name already exists' response if the name input into the textbox is already in use - the name must be unique in  CDV.

The renamed query will immediately show the updated Query Name in the Manage Queries grid.

Deleting a Saved Query

When a Saved Query needs to be deleted:

Select the checkbox on the left side of the Manage Queries grid, for the grid row of the Query to be deleted. Once selected, action buttons that were previously greyed out will become active beneath the grid.

Select the 'Delete' button, the user is presented with a 'Delete Query' dialog where the deletion must be confirmed by selecting the 'Delete' button. They deletion is final.

The Query is deleted from the grid (and CDV) as soon as the delete action is confirmed.
